I write about art and culture: women artists in the twentieth century; experimental and avant-garde art from Europe and East-Asia; cultural criticism and theory that examines how humans respond to art and the most fascinating thing to write about: how people from different backgrounds, cultures and societies talk about how art makes them feel.
I wrote two novels; Aap in pak (‘Suit Monkey’) (2023) and Het lichaam is een kooi (‘The Body is a Cage’) which will be published in 2025. Both are published by Uitgeverij Prometheus.
I wrote my Ph.D. dissertation on women artists in the twentieth century; mostly how they talk and how others talk about their art and ideas. I examine human biases and perceptions in news media, and how these are expressed through language. I examined three case studies of artists in the news; Yoko Ono, Tracey Emin and Marina Abramović.
I sometimes lecture; mostly at The University of Hong Kong, and sometimes at City University of Hong Kong.
